Specialist Service

Judicial & Court-Related
Psychological Evaluation

Judicial and court-related psychological evaluation is a specialised assessment service for adults in the context of legal, judicial, or medico-legal proceedings. The purpose of the evaluation is to address a specific referral question through a structured, objective, and clinically grounded assessment process.

Depending on the referral question, the evaluation may include clinical interviewing, review of relevant records, collateral information (where appropriate), and the administration of standardised psychometric instruments where relevant. Findings are integrated and reported in a manner consistent with the purpose of the instruction and the limits of psychological expertise.

This service is distinct from psychotherapy and does not establish a therapeutic relationship.

Before Requesting This Service

A request for a judicial or court-related psychological evaluation does not automatically mean that the service will be undertaken. Before proceeding, the referral is reviewed to determine whether the referral question falls within the scope of clinical psychology, whether it can be appropriately addressed through psychological evaluation methods, and whether it is suitable to proceed — including, where applicable, within a multidisciplinary team framework.

What to Expect

The process begins with an initial consultation to clarify the referral question, the legal or medico-legal context, and the purpose of the requested evaluation. At this stage, relevant background information is obtained and a determination is made as to whether the referral question can be appropriately addressed through a court-related psychological evaluation within the remit of clinical psychology. The proposed assessment structure, the anticipated number of sessions, the measures that may be used, and the professional boundaries of the service are then outlined.

Following completion of the evaluation, findings are integrated into a psychological report tailored to the referral purpose. The report includes clinically relevant findings, interpretation of psychometric data where applicable, and a structured response to the referral question within the limits of psychological expertise. Where appropriate, the report may also include recommendations for further assessment, treatment, psychiatric review, or other specialist input. Any such recommendations are referral-focused and do not constitute ongoing treatment.

A Note on Objectivity

The evaluation and report are produced on a strictly objective and professionally neutral basis. The findings are presented as they emerge from the assessment and the available information, and the conclusions may or may not support a particular legal position. This service is not advocacy, and no advocacy on behalf of any party will be undertaken.

Sessions are offered in Limassol or Paphos. Online sessions for this service are available to residents of Cyprus only, where appropriate to the assessment protocol.
